Fort White, FL – The Santa Fe River Fest Songwriting Competition has announced Bacon James as the first-place winner in this year’s event. The annual contest, now in its 10th year, brings together local and regional singer-songwriters to perform original songs about the Santa Fe River.
Bacon James’ winning song, “Lost and Found (At the Santa Fe),” impressed the judges with its heartfelt lyrics, evolving structure and emotional honesty. The song tells the story of a man lost in modern society, who finds solace in the Santa Fe River, a special spring-fed river that holds great significance to the people of North Central Florida.
“I am beyond thrilled and honored to have won first place in the Santa Fe River Fest Songwriting Competition,” said Bacon James. “The Santa Fe River is such an important part of our community and has provided a refuge for me during the last few difficult years – I am so grateful for the opportunity to write my song and pay tribute to this beautiful river.”
The River Fest Celebration, which took place on March 26th, was a huge success, drawing music and nature lovers from around the state to celebrate the Santa Fe River. Eighteen musicians were invited to perform their submissions in front of our live audience at the festival. In addition to the songwriting competition, the event featured a successful fundraiser, a silent auction, and many educational exhibits and activities.

For this contest, Bacon James’ prize money was donated to Growhub, a local Gainesville non-profit founded on empowering adults with disabilities . We can’t wait to see what he will create next and wish him continued success in his musical career.
